Mistakes - They Happen.

Mistakes happen. It’s how you react to it that is a reflection of your leadership. It is human to make mistakes or an error of judgement. It doesn’t take much – sometimes just a momentary lapse of concentration. Put yourself in the shoes of the person who made the mistake. They are probably already feeling like crap. Anxiety has probably already consumed them. I have made some doozies that still eat at me today, they are hard to forget. Your (over)reaction can make their life even worse. However, a supportive manager and a supportive team can be the difference in how quickly we can recover from the mistake and get back on track. Stay Calm. Fix. Learn. Move On. And if there is a sense of trust that you won’t overreact, then there is a greater chance your team will feel safe to own up when future problems occur. So, how would you react? Is your team open and transparent or do they hide and run for cover?
