Queen Facts ft. Flash Gordon

Its been a while since I have shared some facts about Queen for you to share at your next stand-up, so these ones are doozies.

Queen’s music lends itself well to movie scores but none are as big and bombastic as their memorable soundtrack for the 1984 movie Flash Gordon

The soundtrack was ground breaking in that it was the first time a rock band composed the instrumental musical score for a movie.

These tracks provided the film with a dynamic and immersive musical backdrop, enhancing the action and drama on screen. In fact Freddie’s vocals only appear on 3 tracks – Flash’s Theme, The Kiss, and The Hero

A fun fact relates to the instrumental track for Ming & Dales Wedding – many fans of the movie and Queen say they would like to have this version played at their own wedding. I do hope they realise that Brian May effectively combined the traditional Wedding March with the Death March in the one track!

The "Flash Gordon" soundtrack remains one of Queen's most distinctive and enduring works. It showcases the band's versatility as musicians and their ability to craft music that transcends the boundaries of genre and medium.

Even today, 40 years later, the soundtrack continues to be celebrated by fans of both Queen and science fiction cinema.
