Happy Friday! Have a Shandy on me!
I am not a beer drinker, never have been. Although I don’t mind a half & half (lemonade / beer).
When we have drinks after work, and I am asked what I am having, you can almost hear the collective gasps when I order a Shandy.
Then the jokes come flying in:
“My mum used to order that!”
“That’s a girl’s drink!”
I am still surprised in these days of political correctness that I am still getting teased for ordering a Shandy.
Maybe the “beer” is the last bastion of masculinity – who knows!
However, I give back as good as I take.
I will sometimes order a Shandy just to see the embarrassment of them going to the bar to order.
Because no doubt they will be asked “What is a Shandy?” or, worst “What goes first – the beer or the lemonade?” or worst, watching the bartender unsuccessfully mix one.
Sometimes I know they will just order a beer to avoid the shame and explain to me “oh they must have only added a little bit of lemonade”
My point of this post is?
I enjoy drinking Shandies, and it makes me unique and it defines me.
We are all unique in our own ways, and we should celebrate that.
I certainly do!
