Planning portfolio priorities and delivery sprints in a giant room with everyone staring at you? Sounds intense, right? ๐ณ Fear not! While our Ignite Big Room Planning is crucial for SAFe success, it can go the way of your high school disco if not done right. So, let's avoid the awkward silences and plan like champs! ๐
The AdaptivOrg team have facilitated well over 250 Ignite workshops, so we know all the anxiety and potential pitfalls that we consistently have to deal with and avoid:
1. Trying to lock in a date that everyone can attend. ๐ ย
2. Trying to convince people that ranking across silos is an important thingย
3. Committing to an estimate based on little or no information ๐ย
4. Anxiety. Is the rank right? Is the estimate right? Have I missed something? ๐ฌย
5. Assuming available budget = available capacity ๐ฐย
6. Dealing with the CEOโs โsuper importantโ initiatives ๐คตโโ๏ธย
7. Detailed discussions that consume time and energy ๐ฌ๐กย
8. Phoning It In: This should not be an option You need people to be present and in the zone. This is hard when you have 30 people in the room, and 1 or 2 dialling in. Treat it seriously, and hype it up! ๐๐ซ
9. Winging It: Pre-planning is your saviour. The more time you spend leading up to the Ignite to refine the backlog beforehand, the smoother it will go. Have materials ready, and don't waste precious time scrambling. ๐โณ
As we address each of these, an amazing transformation occurs in the group and people always come back for more (almost all of the Ignites I have run are referrals or return customers) ๐
