Anzac Day - One of the most iconic days in Australia's calendar, where the nation pauses to respect past and present servicemen.
Once again I celebrate this day by reflecting on the achievements of my late grandfather Michael Portelli who served with Malta in World War 2, and my late father Joseph Spiteri, who served in a naval career that would span 32 years at over 20 ships and bases across England and subsequently Australia, eventually achieving the esteemed rank of Lieutenant Commander
Then of course I will be attending the annual Anzac Day AFL blockbuster between Collingwood and Essendon, one of our biggest national sporting events.
This cherished tradition brings communities together, fostering camaraderie and solidarity as we gather to watch our teams compete with passion and determination.
As we cheer on our teams today, let's remember the significance of this occasion and the values it represents - courage, sacrifice, endurance and mateship - values which we should carry across to our personal and working lives.
On this Anzac Day, may we draw inspiration from the courage of our Anzacs and the camaraderie of our communities. Lest we forget.
