Celebrating Failures: Wicked

Next time you are having a bad day, spare a thought for the producers of the stage musical Wicked.
When Queen Elizabeth II passed away, the world paused to reflect on the life of a monarch who had served for over seven decades. Before the evening performance of Wicked on the West End, the producers made a respectful and heartfelt announcement of her death just before the curtain rose, followed by a minutes silence.
The announcement, though well-meaning, was made right before the opening song No One Mourns the Wicked. The song’s opening lyrics are a vibrant “G𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀! 𝗦𝗵𝗲’𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗱!”
Pretty sure her majesty would have had a little chuckle upon hearing that.
