The Elephant in the Room: Part 1

Updated: Apr 28, 2023

How do you deal with the Elephant in the Room? (Part 1) Find the sequel to this story here: https://lnkd.in/g2fCyXQr Elephants are those glaringly obvious issues that we typically choose to ignore because we want to avoid conflict or rocking the boat. For example someone may have acted inappropriately consistently and we just put up with it, or they have inadvertently made a key mistake, or the project approach is just clearly heading down the wrong path. Do you grit your teeth and bare it? Do you complain in private to some of your peers? Ignoring the elephant and hoping it will go away (like in this video) is not the answer, because it will always be there lurking in the background. There has to be a strong foundation of trust within the team so that a safe environment exists to openly deal with elephants. You really need to make sure the elephant doesn't magically transform into a Grey Rhino (warning signs that could turn into a significant disruptive event for your business).
